Contrary to its name, Conflict started as a representation of what two grape varieties can do together and the beautiful dance of which varietal will shine through. With this wine being a consistent favorite of critics and guests alike, the real conflict will be when this wine leaves your glass! This wine is dark purple with ruby hues and has aromas and flavors of tobacco, blackberry, blueberry, savory thyme, with a hint of sweet toasted oak. Bright and elegant, this red blend has a soft texture with the bright fruits of pomegranate and cherry shining through. The finish on this wine is lingering and well-balanced.
The 2019 growing season was unique. Late winter weather left snow in the vineyard in February all the way into March, delaying pruning and other vineyard work. Summer temperatures were cooler, with a notable lack of heat spikes. A minor frost event at the end of September was followed by a series of larger, statewide frosts and freezes in early to mid-October. Cooler temperatures contributed to lower overall sugar accumulation and higher acidities, which we welcomed in this vintage. The grapes were then fermented in open-top small-lot bins. The wine was then aged on lees in large format French oak barrels to accentuate savory characteristics while softening the texture and finish.
